1996 Toyota 4Runner Help

Hi guys,

Just picked up a 3rd Gen 1996 to replace my trusty 1993 model. Couldn't be happier with the car BUT a few things I'm trying to figure out. I could not find the jack or crank that would allow me to lower the spare tires. I looked in the compartment in back which is where I thought it would be held but not there. The 1993 model had two compartments. Is there some secret compartment on the 1996 that I don't know about? Could the jack and tire iron be somewhere on the car I just don't know about it? Also what are you guys using for oil on your early 3rd generations? Mine has 150K and stills runs great.

Thanks guys, I should have done a search but came across a pdf of the 1996 model users manual and found where the jack was. Do you guys think there's any long term drawbacks to using 10-40W oil? I was using 20--50 W on the 1993 4runner but it has 200K+ miles. I also noticed that onthe oil cap they are recommending 5-30W as well.

i have a 96 with about 209,000 miles, no real problems! knock on wood

and i have been using castrol synthetic 5W-30 with no oil presure problems, i puled the valve cover about a month ago and the heads were extremly clean!

also be sure to change you oil often to keep your engine running for along time!

good luck and congradulations on your step up to a 96
