1997 4Runner Folding Seats Problem

Ok I just got a 97 4runner yesterday. the folding seats worked fine. My friend opened them but when he closed them the loop went in the seat. so i got the loop out and its in that little half circle thing like its supposed to.

So i tried to open the seat and it will not open. The back back folds down fine, but the seat will not open.

Someone please help i need to have these seats folded soon for a trip need the space.

Don't pull harder, you have to fish your finger or something in there.

Theres a plastic piece that sticks out from the bottom part of the seat that hooks onto the top part. If you pull too hard, it will break it.

I've had this happen to me a few times, and yes, it's a *****, but use your best skills to try and get it undone. Use a screwdriver or something as a prying tool if you need.

Open your other seat to see how the plastic thing is shaped and how the seat works, that will give you a better guide than anyone on here can.

This happened to me a few months ago. I would just unbolt the 2 bolts behind the covers on the bottom of the seat. Took me a couple minutes and the seat was free.

Mine kept doing it too. After finally freeing it and being frustrated, I just removed the little loop and plastic thing that keeps it there. Now it just folds up when I pull on it. Passenger side works fine, the other was so bent that I couldn't open it with the loop.
