I downloaded the 1996 manual, but there are lots of things different from the 1997.
Is there a 1997 manual that can be downloaded????

What all is different? The manual I have is for a different year (and it might be for a taco, don't remember), and I have used it quite a bit without issue. Curious what I might have been missing.

Owner's manual or Factory Service Manual?? Big difference.

Here is the '97 Owner's Manual:

The only FSM on-line I have seen is the 2002. (I assume that is what you have, as '96 and '97 are really almost identical.) Yes, quite a bit is different, especially if you have a 5-speed, 4-cyl. which did not exist in 2002. I can only suggest you pick up a paper one on eBay, but they aren't cheap.

Do you have the link for the 2002 you mentioned?

It seems they changed the ignition system in 1997.
No distributor.
I also think they changed the EFI system in that year.
It is a 4cly, 5speed.
Don't have it yet. Picking it up next week.

The ignition system went from a plain old distributor to a simple dual ignition coil setup, nothing too fancy, it just uses a single crank position sensor and is still a wasted spark system. Super simple setup. The fuel injection system should still be the same as far as hardware goes, but they changed the ECU to handle the ignition system. Welcome to the club in advance, we 4 cylinder owners are few and far between.
