1998 4Runner SR5 totaled. Did I get a fair settlement?

Buy it back at the salvage price of $1500-$2000 and part it out. I bet you could get $1500-2000 for the engine and $1500+ for the trans.

I would have bought that engine in a heartbeat when I was having my cracked head issues.
 
He has a lot of positive feed back. Have you seen the truck in person? I noticed he also has it listed on craigslist for significantly more than the winning bid. Ask if you can see it, do your due diligence, then maybe make him a cash offer.

Which craigslist does he have it in? The Denver one? I just thought it was strange that the deal had already fallen through within minutes of the ending bid. I don't believe there was a reserve on it but the winning bid must have been a lot lower than he was wanting for it.

i wouldn't pay $16500 for a 19 yr old truck regardless of the miles. that's more than 1/2 of new!

even 11k sounds high to me for a stock auto trans.

Well the seller has a negative feedback on ebay from the guy who "won" the bidding on the 97 4Runner because the seller refused to sell it to him because he said the 11k winning bid is too low even though he had no reserve on it!

That is pretty messed up but looks like he will be keeping his truck if he wont budge off of 16500. For that I can get me a nice 4th gen. Hell I bought my 2005 for 11k with less miles than he has.

Yeah, so even if I had won that bid, he would have backed out of the deal. The thing is, ebay car auctions are not binding so there is really nothing the winning bidder can do! I'm glad I didn't win that bid because I am now seeing that 11.1k is way to much for that 4runner even in the mint condition it appears to be in. Anything more than that is insane!

Yeah, I'm ok. He hit me right at the B pillar. If he had hit me a foot or 2 more forward, I might not be here or at least severely injured.

Glad you're okay. But that insurance offer is pretty generous. I'd take it and move on. Don't get too hung up about miles either when liking for a replacement. I think in general you're better off with one that has higher miles but big maintenance items done vs. a low mileage one that will need them.

I guess holding out worked because I just got a $15.5K offer from the insurance company. I'm actually shocked. I thought the 11K offer was probably fair but just wanted to run it by here to be sure but I will jump at this offer! Yeah, that 974Runner looked good but I thought there were too many questions about it and the guy's behavior regarding how he handled the ebay auction raises more red flags. I see that his Craigslist add has been deleted so he either sold it or took it off for lack of offers.

Nope.

A 1999 HIGHLANDER with a locker and 35k miles OK just MAYBE.

If you provide proof of this $15.5k payment I take back everything I said.

Holy crap! That's a lot of money dude! I wonder what the kelley blue book value actually is! Probably not that much!

(EDIT) I looked it up on kbb.com and in excellent condition it's only worth $6,500!!!! You have to show us proof!

In April you said you just inherited this 4Runner with 38k miles.

But that "email" says date of loss is 3/18/2015....40 days before you "inherited" it asking what it was worth!

How did you inherit this cherry 4Runner after it was already totaled? Not to mention "then" it had 38k miles, and now it has 35k miles.
