1998 Rear Differential Lock

Just picked me up a nice 98 Limited, and after driving both highway and in 7 inches of clay/mud, can't imagine owning anything else. It didn't come with a manual. From what I've read in previous posts, this is what I've gathered, and want to make sure I'm right.

The rear diff lock only works in 4LO, for "safety" reasons. Is this correct? It sure would be nice to get it to engage in 4Hi while navigating through some of these muddy roads. I saw a mention of a method to disable this safety feature, but cannot find the exact method. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks, I am really grateful for this forum.

Thanks trd_4runnin, I won't have any problems with this mod.

One last question on the locker - someone told me it would be good to lock the rear diff while towing. Is this a good idea or not; after what I've read I could see it either way.

You never want to lock the rear diff on any solid surafce and I would ask that someone what thye exactly meant since I don't think they understand how the diff lock works giving you that advice.

Remember, both rear wheels are locked together and won't slip so I don't how it would help with towing,it's used to get unstuck or traversing trails that need a litttle extra help on.
