Assuming the 98 is just like my 96, and I'm almost definate that it is, you have to pry out the little panel where the HVAC controls are. Behind it you'll find two screws that hold the dash together. Once these are removed it should pop loose fairly easy.

i have a 98 sr5 and that above explanation is exactly correct. Get those screws and you are set. careful not to break any plastic clips when prying!!!

so i just have to pull out the AC panel and access the screws from behind it??? seems difficult to get ahold of that... but will try, thanks for all the helf guys...

Yeah. I used a flat-head screw driver to kinda pry at it from where the levers for the controls stick out. Be careful not to break the little plastic tabs. I did this, but luckily had superglue around. If this happens, just superglue the tab back on bery carefully and let it DRY and you will be fine. But, thats all there is to it....I believe there are 2 screws (both on the sides of the A/C unit...the one on the left is a little farther back then the one on the right....could be 3 screws, but im ALMOST positive there are only two)Goodluck....post again with any questions u may have, or send me an email.

Yeah...I'm definate there are only two screws. He's right about the plastic tabs though, they are pretty delicate.
