1999 4Runner As First car

This is my first post here as I am new to the community. I am 16 and got my license and first car. Its a 1999 4Runner with stock specs. Its not the nice limited package or anything else like that. I am looking for some cheap or relatively inexpensive modifications that I can do to it. I dont have many skills when it comes to cars but I am willing to learn and I hope that this car will help me do so. Some things that I had hoped to do to it include:

Painting it Black (I dont like it's current tan color)

Replace the headlights and taillights with the euro style. I then plan to install some of those guards over the taillights

Get some nice rims to add to it to get rid of the stock cheap hubcaps.

I also was wondering if it was possible to install the fender things that go over the wheels like on the limited edition 4runners.

add a flowmaster muffler tip

do some type of cheap grill modification (like the other post on this board)

then add a hood scoop

are there any other cool modifications that I could do? i don't want to turn this into a performance car or something to go 4x4ing in, just something for around town, but I want it to look nice.

oh and another mod that i would like to do would be to find some of those gauge overlays, but i have yet to find any compatible with a 99 4unner

CONGRATS ON YOUR FIRST RIDE

And what a great vehicle to start off with.
Thanks for the memories of my first ride and how over active my imagination was to mod it.(86 GTI)
Good luck!

DO NOT plan on painting it.

doing it cheap will be ugly (ie door jambs that dont match, etc) and doing it right will be EXPEN$$$$IVE.

yes you can add fender flares, but you will have to punch holes in the body.

those all look like awesome(expensive) mods, the only one i wouldn't reccomend would be painting it. When i first joined on here i wanted to paint mine black as well. There are deffinite downsides, re-painting a car, especially a 99' 4runner will kill your resale value. One thing youll get from some members on here is that there are some mods that you should have bought the 4runner with.

I understand you cant always be picky and choosy either but repainting and doing the door jams will be very $$$ for a decent job.

congrats on the new ride and welcome!:biggrin2:
