1999 4runner ignition wont stop

After having issues with the ignition switch for months and using a little WD40 to loosen it up the ignition decided to stay on constantly, so the vehicle is now always trying to start so we had to dosconnect the battery.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
1. Bad ignition switch
2. Short in the electrical

If I have to replace the ignition is it that difficult compared to 1985 chevy

Update

Interesting I just removed the starter relay and the ignition fuse and connected the battery back but it still turns over.

It sounds like a problem in the starter solenoid which is on the starter motor.

Good point it must stuck and engaged
