1999 Keyless Entry and Doorlock problems

Okay I have a 99 with a dealer installed RS3000 Plus security system. It didn't have a key fob when I bought it. Just recently I ordered one from camel back. I open up my dash to access ECU and the ECU is labeled RS2000. I can find nothing on programing a FOB for the RS2000 ECU, or anything about the RS2000 ECU for that matter. Google brings up zilch. One other guy had the exact same problem as me with no help.

A bit more googling tells me about a trick to program some Toyota keyless systems by inserting and removing the key and cycling the door locks 5 times shutting and opening the door then cycling them 5 more times. I figure I'll give it a shot.

ANYWAY. I go to cycle my door locks and they work fine at first but they get weaker and weaker and by try number 5 I have to manually push and pull the locky thingy on the door to cycle it so my lights blink like they're supposed to. It's all my locks, not just one or two doors. I'm aware of this issue as it's happened to me (until today) exclusively in super hot weather (95*+). Is this a problem with my Body ECU? Which connections can I jiggle to test function? It's dark here now and I see alot of yellow wires which I assume are airbag wires so I'm not about to go tugging on stuff.

Any help/guidence appreciated for either issue, the KEYLESS or the LOCKS. Also if anyone wants to buy a 1999 4wd 4runner that has shit for doorlocks hit me up.

I don't have factory alarm but I did just program another fob to the keyless entry system and it was pretty smooth. I followed the procedure you are talking about (exact steps were found on this forum, but you'd have to search).

As for the locks getting weaker towards the 5th cycle, that'd give me the impression that the lock actuators are starting to give out. Kind of a coincidence that they'd all go, but not unlikely either given the age. I'd study up the procedure and feel confident doing it so that when you execute the procedure you don't keep messing up and having to redo it- that'd definitely wear your lock actuators. If it does get to that point, let them "rest" for a lil bit to allow then to cool down and prevent further wear. Hope this works.
 
2 different remotes (one with rear window button, one without), though both Toyota. Besides the FCC #, one reads RSS-210, while the other reads IC: 1551A-12BBX.
 
So my 4runner may have keyless capabilities without the use of the security system?


Alternatively does anyone think I would just be able to purchase a brain for thhe RS3000 system, hook it up to my existing harness and program my new remote?
 
I'm confused? You said the lights blinked etc. at the end of your sequence? that should be when the fob is recognized by the main unit.
That said you only have a limited time for this to happen or you have to start the sequence all over again. Because you got a reaction at the end of your sequence, I doubt your main unit is fried.
I too have weak actuators & had to help the drivers door lock manually during the process. No problem however, it worked after about 6 tries.
That was 8 months ago & still going strong. I have the "factory" installed system, it sounds like you have the "dealer" installed system without the rear window on the fob. They should be very similar as far as programming.
Someone else can chime in here as far as programming there may be subtle differences & if it isn't done exactly it won't work, making you think the main unit is fried.
Take your time, be rhythmic and don't stop the process once you start.
It helped me to count out loud when I was doing it. I'm sure I sounded like an idiot in the driveway, but it worked.
Don't forget to manually help it along when your actuators are weakening (normal for an older vehicle).
Maybe someone can provide the sequence for your "dealer" installed system?

By lights I am referring to my interior rear dome light flashes when I cycle the locks once. so five flashes = five successful lock cycles

I'll try again to get my fob to work this afternoon. I went to the local dealership today and they were ZERO help. Their master tech kept insisting I had the RS3200 system even though I brought him my RS3000 PLUS brochure and offered to show him my RS2000 control module.

I'll keep you guys posted.


edit: At lunch earlier I managed to get my alarm system activated. It was much easier than the time I tried a year ago and gave up on it. Now All I need to figure out is the keyless.

I believe I have it figured out ladies and gents! It appears that the RS3000 Plus system is a Dealer installed options designed to operate with a factory keyless equipped 4runner, rather than the standard 3000 which has keyless transitters paired with the security system ECU. This explains why my unit passively arms as soon as I shut the doors regardless if they are locked are not.

So my research indicates I will need this FOB to operate my keyless door locks:

89742-35050

I will see about procuring this FOB from the stealership and then I'll update the thread when I have results!

How did it go? I just picked up a 2002 SR5, and it says that it has the security alarm and all, but the guy didn't have any fobs to speak of. I might also head down to see what the stealership has to say about the matter.

I am just wondering if an aftermarket alarm might be the more solid choice. If the fob is easily replaceable, I imagine that it would be the cheaper route. Otherwise, it's nothing that hundreds of dollars can't fix.
 
So I kind of forgot about this after I got it working. Haha.
The RS3000 Plus System is a dealer add on system for 4runners which are already equipped with a keyless system. It automatically arms when the vehicle is locked via the key fob. All I had to do was buy a factory key fob (Toyota #89742-35050) and program it per the FSM. Works great!


edit: well looks like I need to learn to read. I already updated the thread. anywho. keyless still works!

Depends on the security system. If you can find the part number, try camelback toyota. they have great prices.

I ended up getting a nice two-way aftermarket alarm with keyless entry. Ha.. I have never had such luxuries as powered locks and windows, and now... keyless entry! I am spoiled rotten. LOL.
 
So I just bought a 1999 T4R with no key fobs last week. I was told by dealership it had the RS3000. So i ordered the gray key fob and went to program it to find out it has an Vehicle Intrusion Protection RS2000. It doesn't have the green program button. I opened it up to see if there was something i could push inside the black housing and found nothing. I did see that on the green circuit board it does say RS3000...My questions are... is there a way to get fobs programmed to this board or can i buy an RS3000 ECU with the green program button and swap it out? Thanks

Despite the plastic saying RS2000, it's listed by Toyota themselves as an RS3000 unit:

Beyond that, it looks like Maybe the "RS3000 Plus" and RS3200 are often interchangeable (lots of search results), so try these program instructions:

TOYOTA VIP SYSTEM PROGRAMMING-RS3200

ADD ADDITIONAL REMOTE CONTROL(S) TO SYSTEM
Follow this procedure to add additional remote controls to a system. The RS3200 may be programmed to operate with a maximum of four remote controls. When a new remote controls is programmed, it will work in the default operation mode (press the UNLOCK button twice to unlock all doors and no AUX button function on 4 button remote controls); to change the operation mode, you must perform the separate REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTION SELECT procedure as shown on pages 6 and 7 OF THE manual. 


1. Before you begin:
Open the driver s door and remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. Start the programming procedure. (Complete these steps within 40 seconds.)

a. Insert the key into, and remove it from the ignition switch 2 times.

b. Close, then open the driver s door 2 times.

c. Insert the key into, and remove it from the ignition switch 1 time.

d. Close, then open the driver s door 2 times.

e. Insert the key into, the ignition switch and leave it in.
f. Close the driver s door.
g. Turn the key from LOCK to ON, then back to LOCK.
h. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

i. The tail and marker lights flash 1 time, the buzzer chirps 1 time and the doors lock
and unlock 1 time.*

* If the system does not activate the lights, buzzer and door locks 1 time, start over.


3. Program (add) an additional remote control.

a. Press and release both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons control at the same
time.
b. Press and release the LOCK button.
c. The tail and marker lights flash 1 time, the buzzer chirps 1 time, and the doors lock
and unlock 1 time.*
Note: Repeat the above steps to add additional remote controls.

4. Complete the programming steps.

a. Open the driver s door
 
Well I tried the sequence several times and got nothing. I went to local Pull-a-Part and ended up finding an RS3000 ECU out of a Rav4. Made sure it had the green program button and took it home and just plugged it in & replaced the RS2000. Pressed the button and was able to program 3 key fobs no issue. I appreciate the response. Thought I'd leave a follow-up in case someone else needs the info.

I'm in the same boat. I bought a 99 without keyfobs. Got into the dash and found the same as you, RS2000. So now I'm trying to find either an RS3000 or an RS3200. What I'm hoping to be able to do is get a OEM fob with the rear window option. Does anyone know which control unit the rear window option came with? Is it the RS3000 or the RS3200?
