So a little about myself first. I am a high school student who was basically forced to buy a 3rd gen 4Runner since it was already in the family. I originally hated it but now I have started to become attached and wanting to build it.







I bought the car at a family discounted price at 181,000mi Bone stock.

My first thing to do in the car after I got it was install a new stereo deck. I do not have any pictures at the moment but it is a pioneer double din. Then, I installed 6.5" Kicker speakers in the front doors. I have 5.25" for the rear doors but no adapters to fill the void.







I then added LED interior lights that I bought off Amazon for dirt cheap.







Then after about 8,000mi. under my command, the suspension began to sag and I would bottom out on any and every bump I hit. So I purchased a 3" Rough Country suspension kit.

I literally picked the car up 7 hours ago. For the little bit I drove it I love it so far. I need an alignment still but hopefully that will get done tomorrow or over the weekend. I'm not a huge off-roader and there aren't many trails around New York so I'm not going to be stressing it out too much.

Thank you! I am just trying to get it looking the way I want little by little with the money of a high school kid and the opinion of my parents.

That's understandable. I have to ask because of the photo, and the NY license plate, how bad is the rust under your ride? Have you considered doing a chassis saver/rust prohibitor?

The most rust you will see on this car are on the front and rear bumpers where my sister went backwards into a tree and I rear ended someone. This car was originally from Pennsylvania and the frame is in perfect shape. I believe the car has only spent 5 winters in NY with is only gained about 30k. My sister bought it in 2010 and then I bought it in 2014 before I could even drive

I follow, this forum along with a couple of others and I will say for its size, it's definitely my most frequented/favorite for these reasons. Very knowledgable and willing to share. Far less drama then some of the others, whose forums I will not name as I have the same screen-name on nearly all of them.

New update:
I purchased some LED interior lights from OPT7 to put under the dash. The kit comes with a hook up to an interior dome light and when I wired it up, the lights are supposed to turn on white when the door is opened but it does the opposite. When the door is closed the lights turn on and when the door is open the lights turn off. Any ideas how to change how that works?

Also, while I was looking at the fuse box in the engine compartment, I noticed this box that was taped with electrical tape and then cracked open.

Anyone know what it is and what it does?

it's definitely a data port. I would clear that wire out of the way, take that nasty tape off and glue it back together. maybe add a little tape again until the glue sets. you don't want a lot of debris in those ports.

All of the steel in your engine bay tells a story of rust. I'd get under your trucknand give it some love with a wire cup brush and get it coated with por15. Get that taken care of prior to it becoming a problem and you will have a solid ride for years to come!

Plasti Dipped my emblems today. They look great and were so easy. I figure there are plenty of other people that give step by step processes out there that I don't.
