First I would like to say hello. I have been looking through the posts for awhile, and decided to post up my expernice with my 1999 sr5 two wheel drive 4runner. I bought a 1999 2wd 4 runner a few weeks ago with 146,000 miles for $6800.00. I was able to talk with the seller and he showed me all the records and all sechuled checkups were in order, inculding timing belt.I took it to a local maint shop for a once over and all the fluids changed. I noticed that at highway speeds 65ish it would vibrate like a cheap motel. So back to the shop and they recomended u-joints. Being stubren I checked the net and found ppl complaining about the same issue and the fix was to find a shop with a gsp9700 ( i think it was ) and a special flange plate to make the wheel fit right on the machine. So after wasteing 2 days looking for a shop and paying for the "road load " test nothing changed. Went back to the shop that recomended the u-joints and within 1/2 a day they had her running smooth. Its a really nice truck that was well taking care of and I am looking foward to many more miles. Just wanted to share my fix for the common vibration problem.

Great follow up and congrats on your purchase! I think someone else has posted up a similar resolution to the same problem but for them they replaced the drive shaft. Any other symptoms noticed prior to replacing the u joints?

Great! thanks for the info, my 1996 is doing the same thing, how much did it cost, with labor?

Got it done at a local shop the works on Lexus/Toy only. Total cost was less than $250.00. Something like $239.00 or so can't remember for sure. My symptoms before the fix was vibrating/shaking at speeds of 60-70 mph. I could feel it a little at lower speeds but once I hit 60 it really got bad. Like a harmonic resonance thru the whole truck. Now after the fix it rides smooth although a little stiff, but more like a small truck should ride not like I am sitting on a vibrating bed.

Grease

Kolt, Did you also have grease splatter? I just recently raised my '97 t4r 2.5" and I've noticed the vibration at 55-65 mph and grease splatter from the shock area since the lift. Has anyone else noticed the same. By the way, I've owned my t4r since '01 and just found out about this site.....man it's GREAT!!!
