1999 supercharged Limited

Been looking around for a 4runner for a while. I really like the Limited models and stumbled across a '99 LTD with a supercharger. It's got 116k miles, listed at $9900 but negotiable. Looks pristine but I haven't driven or inspected it yet.

My question is if the supercharger causes any complications. Also are they less reliable, anything special I should look out for, how does it effect gas milage?

I'd apprecaite any insight that you guys can offer. Thanks!

SCs are pretty reliable and as long as the install was done right it'll last pretty much the life of the truck (with a rebuild of ther nose screw sometime in it's life) and MPGs shouldn't be affected if you can stay out of the pedal a bit but you will need to use premium gas.

So there are basically no other concerns other than premium gas.

But wouldn't the cpu re**** the timing automatically with regular fuel?

It would with regular fuel to temper detonation to a point but you'd just be losing power. The 3.4 is already a bit of a high compression engine so even at just 5-7psi you need premium.

Test drove it today. Runs smooth, pulls pretty hard, the tranny seems solid, everything's nice. They want $8900 which I think is pretty fair. Still not sure if I want to spend that much though.

Keep in mind that if it's an automatic (didn't see any reference, but I think most if not all limited are autos) there are changes needed to the tranny as well or (according to what I have seen and heard) damage could result as well as driveability problems. From what you say, it sounds like the changes were made, but I would ask and see what the seller says.

Let me know what they say if it's an auto and how much cost they incurred in making the tranny changes. I have a 2000 Limited and my cousin has a 2000 with stick and S/C. He has been considering selling it and he'll give me a great deal on the S/C if I want it.
