Looking for ideas on where/how to install a second battery, I am running roof rack lights (front & rear) bumper extra lights and soon a winch. Thanks in advance.

Funny you should inquire.

I'm planning on installing a tripler battery setup in my 97 Runner. Gonna build a custom rack for the rear cargo area using UniStrut. I have the 0 gauge wire with a Painless Waterproof isolater...gonna also use the extra batteries to power my winch (receiver mounted with the Warn kit).

I'll post a DIY with pics as soon as completed.

Optima, yellow or red top. I am a big fan of Optima, always worked great on my previous Land Rovers.
 
Also check out expedition portal. There are some nifty dual battery set ups in 4Runners and Tacomas.
 
A dual battery would be sweet. You can always run a smaller sized battery and since Optimas are sealed battery, you can always mount them any way you like.
 
Yeah...my primary is an Optima Red Top and the dual backups are both Optima Yellow Tops. The whole setup came off my Ram before I traded it in.

I was thinking of mounting the spares under the center of the Runner (there's room), but decided it was cleaner to keep the batteries inside. (Less temptation for some idiot to crawl under my rig and steal $400 worth of batteries one night.)
 
What about using the back compartment in the truck space??? On the right side? Im not sure if that comes with all 4runners but its big enough to hold a battery and to run wires just go under the floor under back seats and to the front. Thats what i plan on doing and just rig a set of switches for what i want.
 
I don't see why that wouldn't work. You would have pretty long runs of wire, but there isn't really a way to avoid that. You could also build a battery rack that would just hold the battery in the cargo area.

Well the battery rack in the cargo area isnt a bad idea but i kinda dont want to see it every time i open the back. But even though it will be alot of work I could make it very nice. I will most likely end up drilling through the bottom of the floor in the holding area, And use all weather protecting wire casing and run it up into my console area and make a small switch board which is very easy to access and use.

Something almost like this but smaller and less switches.

Im not sure yet of anything ill use. but just as a precaution ill protect the wires. I like to make sure everything wont go bad for a long time.
 
As long as your just running it under the carpet and along the door you shouldn't need that weather protecting wire, but it never hurts to be safe.

I would go with 1/0 gauge wire. It is excellent.

ohhh you have the wrong idea.. haha im talking litereally Under the truck on the outside... not under the carpet. I have enough wires under there as it is.
