That is actually the old version of the 1GR-FE. The new version has a roller rocker valvetrain which basically means that the cam lobes actuate a roller rocker that 'pivots' on a hydraulic lash adjuster and thus pushes the valve open. Should mean no valve jobs for the 5th gen 4Runner owners because as the valvetrain wears, the hydraulic lash adjuster will take up any lash that otherwise would make terrible ticking noises when the the lobes come around.
