1st 4th gen experience

So a friend of mine just picked up a V6 2WD 4th Gen. He was driving it home, about 80 down the highway, and it quit, motor just basically locked up and quit. I’m wondering if there’s any 4th gen isms that would cause this. Had a 3rd gen for a long time. Any help would be appreciated.

- May be a rare - one off/ unique problem depending on the maintenance
- early 4th gens occasionally have problems with transmissions overheating/ failing or head gasket failure

Sounds like your friend bought a serious lemon, preexisting issue.

Not enough detail...
-did the engine actually lock up or did it just stop running? does the engine still spin with starter?
-does the truck roll when out of park?

If it's actually locked up then something is really wrong internally which is not very common. Something that is more common is the rear end losing fluid and locking up or something to do with engine running like an ignition or fuel issue.

Did he check the dipstick oil level before driving off? 4th gens are funny about needing oil in the sump.
