1st gear pops out

I have a 1991 5 speed that tends to pop out of 1st gear when first engaging clutch. If I double clutch before shifting in to 1st, this seems to eliminate the problem. This has been happening for about 20K miles and slowly getting worse. Was very occasional, but now is it more common.

Does this sound like a worn seat, or more like syncros or maybe springs?

Any help appreciated.

thanks

I am not really sure what exactly the problem is, but I remember hearing on Car Talk once that this sort of thing is commonly caused by keeping you hand on the shifter while driving. The simple solution suggested was, ironically, just keep you hand on the shifter to prevent it poping out.

A worn seat on the shifter is possible, especially on a 20 yr old truck.
Marlin Crawler has some heavy duty replacement parts.
It's a good place to start.
