1st Gen 4R from Florida

Hello new friends. I have my second 89 4R. My first was an 89 with the 22RE. Trading that unit in was the second biggest mistake of my life. I now have an 89 with the 3.0 V6 and love it. Pulled it out of a farm field saved it from the cannibals.

I have a current problem I can't quite diagnose. About 500 miles ago I gave her a new set of plugs and distributor. It made a huge difference immediately. One day I start her up and she is missing terribly. I have replaced the coil, then the igniter and then the MAF housing to no avail. Removed and cleaned the cold start injector. Still nothing.

I'm looking for the next step. I don't mind browsing old postings but there are over 1200 of them in the 1st G section alone. Any recommendations?

What plugs did you use? The 22RE and 3VZE don't like anything but basic Denso or NGK coppers. If you're using fancy plugs, ditch them and switch to a basic plug from Denso or NGK.

Is it missing on any particular cylinder? Try pulling ignition wires one at a time - if you pull one and it doesn't get worse, that's the cylinder that's missing. If it's missing on all cylinders, maybe check your timing? Check your compression too, you could have a blown HG. I would definitely stop throwing parts at it though, find out what's wrong first.

Using NGK plugs, the ones recommended by the manual. Properly gaped as well. I will be checking the timing and update.

One other item I forgot to mention. Back when it was running good there was an initial RPM increase at start-up. This is no longer the case.:hand:
