1st gen 5l engine swap

Hi I am new to this site and to the 4runner, although i have had my 85 4runner for a while now I have killed the engine and found it almost impossible to find.

I am wondering has anyone put the 5l into an 85 4runner, i have the 2l-t right now and its shot to bits , ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated , i will start a build thread eventually on this , because i think it might be worth doing a 5l swap.

I don't know where you live, but you can find 22r's & 22RE's all day long on Craigslist & Ebay.
parting out 1985 toyota 4runner 22r

The 22RE is just a 22R with fuel injection, so if you got that you could just swap your intake onto it.

I've seen people swap in a 3.4L from the 3rd gens. Don't know about a 5 liter.

Not a 4x4 4runner but it is a toyota and the hood space should be very similar.

thanks for the reply guys, i didnt explain it better last post, im from perth australia so we use the diesel engines alot , the engine i currently have is the 2l-t (2.4 litre turbo diesel) the engine im looking at is the 5l (3 litre diesel)

Do you guys in the U.S use the diesels much ?

Sadly enough, we don't have diesel 4runners here in the states
