ok just for a giggle whats the point of having a nuetral safty switch if the driver can just press a button to cancel it anyway when it wont start....lol

I can see some idiot getting into his truck and trying to start and when he cant he presses the switch only to find out he is in gear and gos barreling down a cliff for it.

I hope my truck isnt the only one with this magic switch is it?

Safety switch

It's a nice convenience to have when you are working on your truck, you don't have to go in and out and depress the clutch to start up, just reach in the window push the button and crank her.

The very first night I got my T4R I let a buddy drive it around the block. When he parked it in my drive way he cut it off and left it in 1st with no E-brake on. I NEVER DO THIS!!! I always leave it in N with the E-break on. Anyway went to crank it with the nifty clutch cancel button and it took off into my house. Some damage to the brick on my house, busted fog lights and a dented bumper. I find it hilarious now, but I was pissed at the time.

At least I didnt drive it off a cliff....

You should park in gear. What happens if the brake cable snaps?

If I remember correctly, the switch was intentioned for off road use, where you may get stall somewhere where you must leave the vehicle in gear while starting to avoid rolling off a cliff if brakes fail.

I found it a convenient place to wire my clutch switch override for my remote starter on, plus as mentioned above, I can reach in, knock her out of gear, push the button and start without getting in.

I use the swtch in the AM when it's cold out. I'm use to driving older cars that will start in any gear no safety switch. The idiot proof clutch in new cars is So Gay

Except for the rolling off a cliff part, that's what it's for. It's very handy when you need to start it going up-hill in a bad spot where you can't afford to roll backwards and only have 2 feet to work 3 pedals at once.

my clutch switch button must have been over riden by a previous owner cuz i dont even have to push that to start it with out the clutch kinda convinient i didnt know the point of it till i looked in a manual about 3 months after i got it. it was kinda pointles to me but this makes more sence

^Exactly, also used for creeping over a tough obstacle (logs) for people either not wanting to risk damage or that lack skill. Pretty sweet that our first gens had it, as it has working its way into the newer Xterras.

For anyone with a 1st gen it's not new... Saying it's not unique is a bit of a stretch. While other 4x4s have them, the majority do not. It is something that most of us had never seen until our 1st gen.

Aside from off roading uses.. It is a very good feature for the longevity of motor parts and all that stuff. It eliminates the need to put extra unneeded stress on the crank, all the bearings and clutch n whatnot. It's much less wearing on the important stuff when you can start in neutral with no clutch, It's good for many reasons.. Plus, it only takes a genius to push a safety switch without making sure it's not in gear first:wow2::wow2::wow2:....If yer dumb enuff to start it right off a cliff, maybe thats where you were meant to be... LoL just kkidding:hiding:
