1st gen converted to pick-up?

Hey everybody, fairly new to the site. Just wondering if anyone has done, seen, or has pics of a 1st gen converted into a pick up? I've seen a few around, and plan on doing it to my '87, just looking for a little inspiration.

An option might be to buy a soft top and one of the plastic bed liners.When you need a truck put the top down and throw the liner in.Then just put the top up when you're done.You could put a canvas back on it like the jeeps use.

that's a good idea too, i live up in northern BC, and don't get many chances to take the top off. I'm going to convert it to a pick up, but plan on reversing it in spring/summer. should have pics up in the next few days. I'm going to try and make a power back window as well

I'm not a big fan of it....For me, I would just buy a pickup and be done with it.
It looks kind of cool and I bet Chip Foose could make it wild:guitar3:

i know a lot of people will be upset that i'm "ruining" a T4R, ( check out the thread from yotatech, that guy gets blasted with hate!), but it's for good reasons, and... it's still gonna be a T4R!

pretty much done with the "conversion", just need to drive for a few days and see if i notice any drafts coming in. the truck heats up way faster than when i had the full canopy on, and since i never really have any passengers, (that's why i've got the '05 T4R ltd.) i'm glad i did it!

cool...nice job so is it easily reversible? you can just remove the back window piece? I have an extra canopy sitting here...hmmm are those fiberglass quarters? from penticton? thats an interesting conversion Ive never seen that before...imp:

Looks very cool! I would lend you the paint booth at my shop but we are pretty damn far away from each other.


Do you have any pics of inside the back? I see you just folded the seats down and brought a panel from the window bottom to them. Just wondering why you didn't just remove them. Thought it would make some extra room behind the seats.

88T4RE>>> yup, fibreglass rear quarters from penticton, definetely worth the price you pay for em! and yes, it's easily reversible, i've got a "spare" T4R ('87 with 510,000kms) so i've got plenty of spare parts.

94Beast4Runner>>> appreciate the offer, but ya, a little too far away! i took the back of the rear seats from my spare T4R and folded them down, ideally i'd like to have the "rear seat delete pan", but kinda tough to track down. there's still plenty of room behind the front seats. what pics did you want to see, behind the seats, or in the bed of the truck?

I did it

I converted my 86 4R to a pickup because that was the only way it would pass state inspection - tailgate issues. Those of you who are purists, have delusions of grandeur or prissy motorhead values would probably hate it. I just pulled the cap off the back, made an insulated cab back out of plywood and styrofoam, bolted it into the original holes for the cap, siliconed it and went down the road. At some point I plan to take the original bed off - what little is left of it- and build an oak bed and stake body.
Do it any way that suits your mind.
