I had the truck lite LED's in my 81, loved them. I had moisture show up in one light 2 years later into a 3 year warranty. Truck lite replaced them

I am also wondering about this. I am running the original headlights, and instead of replacing those I was thinking about mounting a few high lights on the bumper, since it is so easy to drill out (and they look right at home and are easy to wire). Was considering angling them like the headlights, but not sure how well that works.
Either way, it is hard to see at night, especially fighting oncoming traffic lighting.

I upgraded my 87 4Runner with Cibie H4 housings and a relay harness from Daniel Stern.

The Cibie H4 will give you much better headlights for normal driving. They are E-Code, not US DOT glass, so some might not be able to use these where inspections check that kind of thing.
They are not "flame throwers" for off-road use. In normal driving the light pattern will not constantly blind oncoming traffic like HID or LED bulb changes.
The relay harness will restore full power to your bulbs that the old tired toyota wiring can not deliver anymore.

yep they are spendy but a huge improvement over stock and or halogen
Lower Amp draw is a big plus.
I went as fart to get all the junk to (buckets, grill etc) to convert my 94 to use them but getting the buckets to mount became a PITA so I sucked it up and ended up spending about $400 to get a set of quality lens and LED H4 bulbs.
Driving at night sucks if you can see, to me safety comes first and quality lighting helps me stay safe..I leave for work when it is dark and get home after dark. Helps me to see the idiots longboarding down the hill at night:mmph: in my neighbor hood

Yea I messed around with an aftermarket LED kit a couple months ago. They were bright, but also really splotchy...kind of hard to explain without seeing. Then one blew...covered under warranty, then another blew. Now I'm back to H4....maybe I'll spring for the $350 set of truck lites at some point.

Headlight wiring was retrofitted such that power to the bulbs take a shorter and more direct route from battery, through added relay, to bulb and directly back to fender ground in engine compartment.
Stock wiring of 1986 Toyota 4runner headlight is such that ground runs from bulb, over long wire to cabin, to dimmer-combo switch (stalk), back to engine compartment, to fender ground.
