1st gens looking for soft top...
I couldn't find the thread where it was asked.
Like so:

"the top is made by Specialty Top Company which is the "old" Kayline. When Kayline went our of business, STC bought their top plans and started making the old tops. It was around $525.00 with the shipping."

I was posting his reply to have you look it up... but then again, I guess I'm not doing anything right now...

Thats the other side of it, the pic above with the 1st gen next to mine is another view of it from the front.

The website is:
http://www.specialtytopco.com/
"Fits 4-Runners with removable hard tops built prior to 1989. Top snaps to removable aluminum strips. Some drilling is required to mount snap strips and frame brackets."

If you have any questions the site lists this email to contact:
[email protected]

Can-Back is another maker of soft tops for 1st gen 4Runners.
There stuff is a bit more expensive than Kaylines, but a lot better quality too.

My 4Runner

I'm 17 and my first car was my 1986 Toyota 4Runner with a 22re 5spd tranny and 31's white with white hard top gray interior

Can-Back and SunTop convertible tops

Hi. I have two convertible tops that I'll be parting with soon, probably on eBay. My '88 4Runner is currently up for bid now on eBay (without the two convertible tops). That auction ends 5/30/05 at 11pm EST.

I have both the SunTop convertible top and bikini top and also the Can-Back convertible top. Both are black canvas and in excellent shape. More information and pictures can be seen at http://www.island-images.com/4Runner/

Wow, 7 years ago, does anyone have new info on softops?

Softopper. Uses brackets so you don't drill snaps into your body, comes in different colors, easy to put together, and is well made.

It's expensive and not compatible with a roof rack.

I love mine.
