I picked up some front shocks/coils from an '05/06 Tundra, and am curious whether I can use the coils on my '08 4Runner.
My 4Runner: '08, SR5, 4WD, currently with stock coils and Bilstein 5100s all around. Has the leveling Bilsteins on the front, set at 0.85" right now. No other suspension mods currently.
Tundra parts: Bilstein shocks, yellow, p/n 48510-AF140. One coil has a dab of red & yellow paint, the other has red & blue. Googling suggests that these are from a 4WD double cab TRD Tundra, which I think means these are going to be the stiffest coils from a Tundra.
Google also shows that front shocks/coils from a 1st gen Tundra are a direct swap into a 3rd gen 4Runner. I couldn't find anything addressing the use of these coils on a 4th gen 4R, or on a Tacoma or FJ Cruiser.
Anyone know if these Tundra coils will (a) fit on my '08 4R, (b) provide any additional lift & stiffness, and (c) be too stiff?
I can't find the relative spring rates for the stock 4th gen coils, or a decent list of the spring rates for the 1st gen Tundra. I'd like to replace my front coils with something a bit stiffer -- the FJ coils would be great, but I haven't been able to find them for cheap $. I'm planning on adding an aftermarket front & rear bumper, so if the Tundra coils are going to be overly stiff with a stock 4R, the bumper (and maybe winch) will take care of that problem.
