1st gen. vent windows

Im talking about the little triangular windows on each door, just infront of each main window. Mine have been siliconed shut, assuming because of a leak(s)......
What im wanting to know is how much it would be to replace that gasket....afaik thats all thats there that would need replacing....the glass looks fine and the little locking mechanisms are like butter.

personally i'd leave em shut. but thats not your question.....

.... so by gasket you mean the rubber seal that prevents leaking ? id assume you may be able to melt the silicone out without damaging the rubber. if its damaged beyond repair i think your best bet would be a donner truck or maybe calling the dealership. i dont think a window seal would be too much no matter where you get it that is if its still in production. you might need to cutt and fit some generic window gasket and just jimmy rig it

Yes gasket = rubber seal. It is not something I can recall people having a problem with...
It doesnt look like the rubber is damaged at all, just siliconed over.....
I guess the only way to really know is to remove it and see wtf happens, worst case scenario I have to reapply some sillycones.
Actually the passenger side leaks, idk if its the vent window or not, but whilst rolling forward during normal driving in the rain, water droplets come in, whereas if you are parked no leak.
Its been hard for me to diagnos where that leak is, because im always behind the wheel dammit

It shouldn't be too bad to remove, and who knows you might get lucky and the driver side might not even leak. Silicone-Be-Gone is the easiest and most obvious soluiton. If you can't find any apparently you can use mineral spirits and rubbing alcohol. I've never used this approach and it apparently takes quite a bit longer

Go to a dealership and have them priced. I've found original parts to be pretty reasonable.

I've never had a problem with them leaking on either one I've had...

About 15 years ago I had a '77 Toy Corona station wagon (so I guess, relatively speaking, my '87 4R is actually older), on which the driver's glass one day decided to shatter when trying to roll it up.

I ****ed around with plastic from Home Depot, taping it into the window frame. Went to several junk yards and bought one that should've fit but didn't.

Finally gave up and went to the dealer, expecting to be raped....
It was something like $35.

I was thrilled with the reasonable price, but quite irritated I'd wasted so much time and money trying to be cheap.
