1st Gen will not start after sitting?

I have let my baby sit too long and now it will not start. It is a 87 with the 22RE, only ~155k miles. It will crank and run for about 20 seconds off of starting fluid, but then will stall out. I know it must be a fuel problem, but was wandering what you all would recommend. I was thinking of dropping the fuel tank, draining, and blowing out the lines. Maybe even replacing the fuel pump while I could get to it. Any ideas of something simplier to try?? I got a 4th Gen a while back and have not used the older one much, but wanting to fix it up for my son now. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd check for fuel pressure first.
Jump the +B and Fp terminals of the diagnostic connector that is adjacent to the main fuse panel in the engine bay.
Then grab the fuel line to the Cold Start Injector and have someone turn the key Off/On. You can do the same sort of thing on the Fuel Pressure Regulator and Fuel Pulse Damper.
If you're not familiar with those, find and download a Factory Service Manual.

First thing I would check is for fuel also. Just crack the 12mm bolt loose on the cold start injector and get someone turn it over. If you get sprayed with gas, fuel pump is working!! Lol. If you are not getting any fuel, needs a pump! No need to drop the tank, it has a drain in the bottom and the 4runners have an acess panel under the rear right seat. Makes it nice and easy to get to! Hope that helps

Thanks for the information and tips. That is going to save me some time. The 4runner sat for a year. That should have be fine, if you crank it and drive it down the street once a month, I did not have it at my house, so that was hard to do.
