Hi y'all! This is the BDR from Maysville, Ky! I think this site is great and I am looking forward to becoming a contributing member, even if I dont buy this 4R, I am definitely going back to Toyota because...
I started working as a diesel/farm equipment mechanic when I was 14. At 23, I was employed for a fellow who had an '84 standard cab short-bed 4X4 Toyo for sale. He said it had 280,000 miles on it but all it needed was a clutch. I bought it for 500 bucks. This wasn't your regular little 4wd pickup. For one thing it weighed about 4 tons.. It had a Harbor utility bed cut down from a full-size truck, it had an extremely large 1/4 inch diamond plate push bumper with a HUGE winch and snowplow attachment plus 2 extra leaf springs on all 4 wheels. 22r with a 4spd.
I was a die-hard Chevy man at the time, (still am too!) but I figured I could at least put a clutch in it and turn a buck. Long story short, that was the fall of 93 and it was just starting to snow. I fixed the truck and bought the 8' blade and pump he had laying around for another 500$. Wow... what a truck! I did things to that poor truck plowing snow that NO vehicle should have lived through. I am talking severe hard use here. Not abuse mind you but that year we got a BUNCH of snow in the Ohio river valley and I was running this truck sometimes 36 hours straight. I paid it off many times over then my dumb-ass traded it that spring for a 91 Lumina Euro and it was one of the biggest auto mistakes I have ever made. I miss that truck...
Almost 20 years later, I come to y'all with this, a 1995 4Runner, 3.slow, Limited, Auto, leather and loaded. It has 190k on the chassis and about 80k on the motor I am told. Runs out good, no shaking or rattling. 4wd works fine, tires are older but wore evenly. Cons are, its gonna need exhaust, the right front caliper is either froze or the proportioning valve is screwed, the dash pad and front seats are shot but the rest should clean up nice. (I hope) The heater fan switch is out.
Otherwise, it has the standard rust starting above the tires and a few dings in the body. It's also really dirty in this pic.
I can aquire this beauty for 2200 bucks... should I?
I have pretty much made my mind up to buy it but I was wanting some of y'all's input first I guess!
So, whaddya think?
