1st ticket in the 3rd Gen today....running from the cops!!!!!

Had just gotten out of class and on my way to work.....got some gas...pulled out...and a cop zoomed up behind me...the first thing i thought was that he thought I was someone else...so I was prepared to pull out my gas receipt to show the time, etc.....and then I thought...I bet I can outrun this motorcycle cop....so I slammed the gas.

Just kidding...I pulled over when he blue-lighted me....haha....I had no idea what it was for.....and then he said "YOUR TAG IS EXPIRED".....:cry2:

$164 ticket. I never got anything in the mail from the DMV...but I have moved since my last registration....crap. Oh well. There goes my new radiator for now.

Ya, we have the same B**S**t law here in Connecticut.
The law states: "Drivers who are 18 years of age and older who are police officers, firefighters or ambulance drivers
may use hand-held cell phones and electronic
devices while performing their official duties."
You mean to tell me that they all use there OWN cell phones for official duties?? Every time I see a "Big Hat" (state) cop here in CT they are on there cell phones? Who's abusing the power now? If they are, then take the Radios out of each vehicle and have then use a cell phone. My tax dollars can go to something else!

Sorry for the rant but I can't stand cops abusing power and having a big ego!

CF- the logic is not that they are using their own phones for oficial duty. It means while they are "on duty" in the official vehicle they may use a cell phone without a hands free device. If they are off duty in their own vehicles they must use a Hands Free device. Logic goes something like this:

There is no way to tell that the cop is able to drive undistracted while on a cell phone it's a thing of trust which is Bullsh*t, I don't trust cops, If we aren't allowed to use cell phones, they shouldnt be, they have radio's and stuff to communicate on.

Secondly if they are on the phone it is personal in nature and not business. Also there have been studies done that prove that the use of a hands free device does not minimize the distraction of a driver while talking on the phone. While I am at work I am not supposed to take personal calls neither should they.

Why does he care when you can pay the ticket? you have until your court date to pay it. If you wait too late you'll have to go to court like I did.

I think he was just asking if I was going to be able to get it taken care of before the court date....but I was under the impression I was getting a warning so I said I could take care of it (meaning the renewed tag) this week.

i think john has a point though if talking on a cell phone and driving is supposedly meant to be just as bad as drinking and driving what not let the cops drive drunk while they are on duty, i bet we can come up with some advantages of being drunk and having to deal with unruly people, lol

seriously though cell phone laws and seat belt laws make me furious, we need more laws to hold people accountable and less to try and change societies behavior, don't get me wrong i'm all for a national health care program and other social programs that people tend to call socialism, yet when it comes to things like this that are truly & undeniably socialist, i am very ardent in my disagreement of such things that the same people who rally against socialist health care are quite happy to hand down, i also don't understand why it's so hard? the government is meant to provide the bare essentials for survival to it's citizens and operate with the interest of it's people in national affairs, beyond that there is no need for government and really beyond that it's all complex math.. what we don't need is this stupid mandate of trying to tell the populace what to eat,what to drink, what to smoke, what to drive and all of the rest of these bogus laws that try to conform societal standards or make people act a certain way.

long story short, it's a stupid law in the first place and a person is a person is a person is a person, if your going to make laws that implies that no person can drive and talk on the cell phone without being dangerous then it needs to apply to every person regardless of occupation.

Yeah that's a MP car under an F-15. Here's the low down on this incident.... So, Male driver, Female passenger both walked away from wreckage without a scratch. Passenger side is completely crushed down to the dash line, remember the female, yup she's uninjured. Should be severed from neck up. Cops don't obey all kinds of laws. They veer in and out of traffic without signaling, they don't wear seatbelts because it makes it hard for them to get in and out with their gun belt, they talk on their cells while driving, run red lights, speed, get into theme parks by flashing their badges, intimidate people on and off-duty, etc... But, they also have a to deal with the scum of society everyday so it kinda evens out. Most cops that I know are some of the most miserable people I know, so I guess the perks aren't always worth it. And most of us would probably take advantage of those perks too if no one were there to stop us. I honestly would be very tempted.

I agree with you izzardking about seatbelts, cell phones, and those kinds of laws. You can take a drive with say, your 14 year old daughter and 3 of her friends, eat a sandwich in one hand and hold your Big Gulp in the other and that's ok even though it's about 100xs more dangerous than talking on your cell. They don't give a poo about your safety, safety is just a code word for money. It's all bullsh!t, they just find new ways to steal from us.

Do you think the suits in your state capital care if you pierce your windshield with your noggin because you weren't wearing your seatbelt? Of course not, it's about the $$! Does a pistol grip on a rifle make it more deadly? Maybe more ergonomic, but the bullets don't fly any faster. These laws are about $$ and $$ only.

Although I don't agree about the national health care, I do realize the point you were making. I don't agree with the health care thing because I've been paying for it my entire adult life and then I got myself an education and then I went out and got a job that offers it. Nobody helped me out and I don't believe I need to pay for someone else that's as able bodied as I am.

And the emergency rooms are overcrowded as it is, it's going to be much much worse when everyone and their sister who gets a booboo on their knee is there too because it's free now and their sense of entitlement in this country is bigger than their drive to work. I don't care for their unwillingness to buy it on their own, and I even think welfare should be eliminated for everyone but the disabled.

If you want something in this country then work for it, go out and get it - that is "THE American Way".. Don't get everyone else to pay for it for you because you "deserve" it. We our teaching the next generation in this country that the new "American Way" is to leech off the system as much as you can get from it and only work as much as you absolutely need to. Why does Obama support this sense of entitlement? I believe it's because they are the deciding factor for him at the polls and nothing else. His plan will set our health and medical system back - and throw our seniors (who made this country what it is) under the bus. "Thank you sir for serving in Korea or Vietnam or WWII or whatever... But you're too old to risk a transplant when we (the government) are paying for it."

the fact is, the government was never set up to have a zillion laws that make everyone a criminal. ultimately thats what we have done thru being just plain stupid.

We have medicare which in a sense is socialist as national health care and the reason the er is over crowed is because everyone that doesn't have health insurance goes to the er for a sore throat give these people access to a general practitioner and they vanish from the e.r. . As for the illegals we need to just kick them out and it shouldn't be illegal to have to prove who you are and where your from if you get pulled over or are acting suspicious, i have been working since i was 14 and never took a dime of government money either, i want these systems in place incase of some personal disaster, i've paid into them my whole life and don't mind it. You should not have a system because people abuse it, you should just have a tighter better system. If youre in government housing it should be a tall cement building with small rooms packed in it. You want government food? All healthy cook from scratch stuff for you, you want free health care, fine just don't expect the fancy wheel chair or 1000$ reading glasses. You want more then that? Get a job! I'm a first gen. American and have lived in europe for about 7 years in my adult life, the people over there with good jobs just buy supplantmental, doctors still make house calls, and you get good treatment. Heck even the free stuff isn't as bad as it's made out to be, been to the er in both places and the wait time and level of care was about the same, i do admit the facilities wasn't on par but very little of their facilities in any aspect are.....i don't know i fractured my neck when i was 16 and almost lost everything for life, in an instant... i think it's hard to have that sort of understanding at any given moment you could be one of those people we're talking about now. I think we should have this stuff but i also think we need to fix alot of other things as well. And this isn't a racists comment buy i do feel illegals screw alot of this up for everyone. My dad immigrated here from the uk and it took him 12 years to become a citizen and not to mention all of the schooling just to make himself america would want, these other bleeps just walk in abuse the place and spit on everything my dad had to do to be part of this amazing country.

In a perfect world id choose the government ever time problem is the government is full of re****s who have made a career from something our founding fathers used to do after working on the farm. just one last thing agree or not on health care immigration and the finer points, i'm willing to bet none of us are happy with the way things have been going for a long time.

I think those are good points. And I think a national health care is a good idea in theory and socializing some things may work better, but we have so many freeloaders sucking the system dry, we must do something about that problem before we open the flood gates of free services. Freedom isn't free. If we don't take care of that 1st, the leeches will cause that system to fail too. The only difference is we can fail and keep our money or fail and loose it. To win we must all play fair and all pay taxes but that will never happen until we enforce the laws they are ignoring to get better approval ratings or whatever.

Your comment about illegals isn't racist because it has nothing to do with race. That's what the proponents of the illegals in Washington (I call them traitors) want to make it into - a race issue when it's not. If they were purple and coming from the planet Mars but stealing from our system and the taxpayers, it would be the exact same thing. Color means nothing. My Father also immigrated from war torn Europe (Holland) and he could pull out the old racist card too and say, "Why did I have to go through all that stuff (over 10 years) to become a citizen and to get rights in this country and the illegals don't?". Now that's racist - they get to access those benefits but immigrants from other countries don't. Actually, I believe the correct term for that scenario is facism. Enforcing laws that have been in place for many decades is not racist anymore than it's exciting or tasty or any other adjective.

I think the cell phone laws are more designed to keep people from texting more than simple talking which texting is more dangerous than drunk driving since at least the drunk are trying to DRIVE.
The other thing is when people are holding a phone to their heads with no hands they have no way of looking around to pay attention to what is next to them and I see cell phone talkers constantly riding the center lines or nearly driving off the road so there is a danger plus cell phone talkers are more common than drunk especially throughout the whole day vs the early AM which is peak for drunk drivers.

Cops risk their lives to serve and protect so I can deal with them breaking a few minor laws and if you want to change that then get active and change the laws since cops only enforce what is the law.

really, why not just make it vehicular homicide if you kill someone from talking on a phone and driving. why do we have to make laws that punish the ones who are capable of talking and driving, or any law that tries to make people act a certain way? i think cops are great and admire what they do for us, i've had to call on them more then a few times, and have no problem with cops talking and driving, i'm just saying, don't come to the people and say this is so dangerous it's worse then drunk driving and then allow cops to do it, if it's worse then drinking and driving why not let the cops drink and drive on duty as well after all it's safer then talking on a cell phone....loose the propaganda, give me some real information and let us as the people make an informed decision, I'm so ****ing sick of this fear based society we're running on now, and really don't like laws telling me what to do, if i mess up I'll pay the consequences
