Go ahead; change your fluid and see if it makes a difference.

Absolutely drain and refill it. In fact I would do it twice over two weekends to get a more complete volume change.

A drain and fill will only replace approx 4 or 5 quarts of fluid. You can do a flush yourself at home that will replace essentially all the fluid. do a search on here and at Yotatech.com... I've posted quite a few replies to DIY tranny flushes. I've done it to both my 4 Runners a couple of times. While you're doing it, consider dropping the tranny pan to clean it, the magnets, and the fine mesh filter out.
