2-3" Comfort Rear Lift Options

Interesting that you feel the 891 is soft because as far as I can tell that is one of their HD rear springs. 906 is a 2" lift spring i'm just not sure if it will handle the weight of the proposed tube bumper and their other "HD" options are for 3" lifts. I was thinking people didn't like the Ride of the OME springs but now I've realized it's their comfort ride shock that might stink and the springs paired with bilstein are pretty good. Also I'm not an expert but I think I read in all my research that the bilstein shocks they sell with the 4Runner kit are not the same as the Tundra 5100's. Correct me if I'm wrong

I'd say it's mainly due to the shocks. They will compress easily at low speeds so they feel soft. While at speed or on sharp bumps they tend to resist compressing as quickly and it firms up. I would do this exact set up in a heart beat again. Another thing is that the rears tend to get saggy on 4Runners, so the extra capacity of the HD springs should help. Bilstein or nothing for me, well except if I had ICON kind of money...
For reference, I also have a 2014 F-150 supercrew with the towing package. The 4runner is a marginally softer ride in the rear than the truck, but similar. The truck handles better due to length, considerably wider track, and it's much less prone to body roll. That said, I really enjoy the 4Runner exactly as it is, with Bilstein front and rear. I figured buy once, cry once. The toytec/eibach springs in the front of the 4runner are certainly stiffer than the rear, but I think the combo works very well together.

Don't use the 4th gen 4Runner/FJ 5100 shocks because those are TOO long for the amount of lift you're looking at.

Use instead the 3rd gen 4Runner 5100 rear shocks or if you're always loaded at the back, then consider the Tundra 5100 shocks.

I thought that with 890s (3 inch lift) I would need to get the longer shock? I would much prefer to get the 3rd gen specific ones. I just thought that they would be a little too short for 890s causing the valving to be out of whack.

I've been through about 4 different rear spring / shock configurations on my 3rd gen in the past 6,000 miles.

1. Sagging stock springs w/1.5" daystar spacers and brand new stock OEM Tokico 4Runner specific shocks. Rode kind of sloppy over bumps (especially mid-corner bumps) but was Cadillac smooth on the road compared to...

2. OME 890 springs with brand new stock OEM Tokico 4Runner specific shocks. Was firm, not too uncomfortable, got the rake I liked thanks to the springs, but the shocks couldn't really control the springs and didn't have much travel, which lead me to buy...

3. OME 890 springs (same as above) with Bilstein 4600 shocks. This was garbage. Not enough travel, I was constantly "topping out" these shocks over speed bumps. Ride was horrible, flat pavement felt like a dirt road. This prompted me to buy...

4. OME 890 springs (same as above) with Bilstein 5100 rear shocks from Wheeler's ("5100 rear shock set for 1.5"-3" lift" < copy/paste that into google w/quotes and click the only result). This is what I'm currently running. These have the best balance of control and ride comfort of any setup I've tried. I've not checked travel & flex but these aren't topping out like the 4600s and they're much smoother on pavement.

Any idea what model 5100s those are? Trying to see if I can get away with 3rd gen specific ones or if I should bump up whatever those are... Tundra or 4th gen/FJ.

Not sure - I bought these second hand but unused from a local guy. Wheeler's site doesn't have a SKU or P/N listed. This seems to imply that they are different than the 24-249966.

Don't quote me on this but I have 24-100144 written down. If that is the P/N (I'd check w/Wheeler's), they're not direct bolt on, you need to get a lower bushing that fits and press-out the ones that come with it. For me it was easier to just buy the one where this was already done but if you have a press, the amazon page for the 5100's with that P/N has a reference to Daystar KU08007BK as being suitable.

24-100144 is the Bilstein part no. for the Tundra 5100 rear shocks. Wheeler's Offroad sells those shocks with the correct lower mount bushings for the 4Runner.

I thought as of recent the T4R consensus was to stray away from the tundra rear 5100s and instead use 4th gen/FJ ones. Maybe I misread some posts I just thought that a few people discovered the valving was slightly off with the tundra 5100s which can cause some bounciness.

The rear end skips & chatters over rough pavement. I have Icon 2.5 coilovers in the front and it's noticeably more controlled. Rear bushings are new as well.

the fj/4th gen are longer then tundra. So it depends on your rear coils.

anything with 3"+ of lift id go with 5100 form 4th gen. Anything 3" or lower id go tundra or OME.

I have 890 with the guys 5100s 4runners thier trash! Changing to 7lc wraps with 4th gen 4runner 5100s once I get my rear bumper with tire carrier! 890 trash no flex, rife like crap. My 2cent

Went for that exact same setup in the rear paired with Tacoma 5100s and 881s up front.

Haven't installed them yet (just got everything in the mail today), so I can't quite say yet. Shooting for install this weekend.
