2.4 ltr with 4.56 gear???

ok so my 4runner came with stock 4.10's and i got scrapper 4runner for 100 bucks, it had 4.56's in it. i took them out and was wondering how big of a tire i can run with them in my 4runner. any body know anything about gearing from v6's to 2.4 liters??? im wanting to run 33x10.5x15's i dont think it should be a problem but i want to know what anyone else knows.:hungry:

Is your t4r 5 speed or auto? 4.56's work well with a 5 speed and 33's and an auto would be more ideal with 4.88's with 33's. You can certainly run 33's with an auto and 4.56 and it won't be a horrible power loss.

I run 33x12.5's with 4.88's im manual and it goes very well.
Oh im using a 2.4 as well.

4.56 gears are perfect for 31's with a 4 cyl/5 speed combo.
They wouldn't be ideal with 33's, but would be a great improvement over stock 4.10's.
So for $100 they are a great score, swap them in.

there are a few ways to know what gears you have... the easiest is to check your numbers, if you have a pre 1990 then your numbers will be on a plate on your fire wall in the center of your engine compartment if 4runner is 1990-1995(i dont know if its like this with newer models) there will be a sticker in the inside of your door. the number will be near the end for example mine was G242 i think most of them will be somthing like that anyways go google it and there should be a chart you can find that will tell you what each number and letter means thats what i did i think it was on some other toyota forum but just go google it

The Axle and Trans codes are near the bottom of the VIN plate

You can also tell ratio using tire size and number of rotations of drive shaft versus tire IIRC.

I just put in a 4.56 V6 diff with an Aussie locker yesterday, great complement to the 31s with the 22R-E/5 speed. No 4 wheel drive until I do the front too though.

They moved it from the firewall to the drivers door jamb, it should be on there.

Lol. Can someone take a pic of theirs so I can tell exactly where it should be....I assume in the center of the fw, it not on the jam....that I verified. But the fw is quite dirty.....but 99% sure its not there.
