I see. I guess Iam an idiot for not understanding. If my coils are longer with top plate spacers and that causes damage to my ball joints wouldn't lifted coil overs cause the same kind of damage? I understand the stress on CV's and stuff, but the ball joint thing freaks me out cause 98% of my driving is on street and I often have my family with me. I don't want to take make my risks rise. Is it because the coil overs don't let the droop be so bad?
What needs to be mentioned here, is that there's 2 different kinds of spacers for the front of our runners.
One is a top plate spacer. These effectively extends the length of your entire coilover, which makes you use your lower ball joint as a bumpstop because now your stock bumpstop isn't beign engaged.
The other type is a coil spacer (basically compresses the coil and uses more of your stock down travel to achieve the lift), and this uses the same principal to lift the vehicle as a Toytec coilover, bilstein 5100, etc.
A lot of people use a 1/2" top plate spacer to add to the Tundra TRD coil setup for instance, and people will argue that a small top plate spacer has minimal effects on ball joint stresses.
After experiencing a very lucky LBJ failure, I am now a believer in replacing your LBJ's when lifting because they get stressed more by the lift and bigger tires, plus the fact that they're usually 100-200k+ miles old and/or 11+ years old.
There is a big difference between the two types of spacers, so choose wisely.
