Since they don't offer the smaller engine in the '11s, I'd say the answer to your question is pretty obvious.

Im guessing what he meant in so many words was that they sucked-ass, and since toyota stopped making them b/c the sales were so low you probably wont find anybody on this forum who owns one. I dont think there is a single 4cyl owner here, so that would be your answer we all think they are usless and a waste of a 4runner....and apparently toyota corp agrees.

The only way to get that motor is with the taco. it was offered only in 2010 but it just didn't sell. I'd be surprised if they sold more than 20 of them. Now if it were a diesel than it would sell like hotcakes.
I think you'd have a hard time finding a buyer if you were doing a private sale on one. The demand for 2WD 4Runners is quite low to begin with. The demand for 2WD, underpowered, stripper 4Runners is even lower, which is why Toyota stopped building them, IMHO.

It depends where you are. Here in Atlanta 80% of 4Runners sold are 2WD.
I saw an ad for a 4 cyl on Craigslist from a dealership, so someone must have them. I have not read of a member yet, that has the 2.7 in the 5th gen. If someone has that motor, I would love to see a picture of the engine bay.

If your really serious check places especially in the south. Here is one in Florida. I was hoping they had a picture of the engine. No such luck. I wonder what the price is? It has 7,000 miles on it.

I think what he means is...
Why would you buy something that so underpowered as to be almost dangerous on the highway, gets no better gas mileage than the excellent V-6, and would be almost impossible to sell when the time came?
Mark my words. If you buy the four cylinder, the first time you have to accelerate into traffic, you will wet your pants.

It says it's an automatic. But, that sure looks like a stick shift.
I wish mine had the integrated flares and mud flaps.

Oh...and there is a reason it is for sale with only 7k miles on it. They were probably the slowest 7k miles the previous owner ever drove.

I think that 4 cyl is paired with a 4 speed transmission, correct? Anyway, its a pretty awful combo, only the Southeast region ordered any because it was so underpowered, check in the Southeast if you really want one.
