2 month Report Card - ISSUES?

I have had my 4Runner SR5 now for 2 months (I got it straight off the truck). 1200 miles so far. I was wondering what problems others have found on their trucks as I am experiencing a handfull of minor issues? 1) My shift knob came loose after 2 weeks (had to hand tighten 1 more turn to get it tight and straight). 2) My power lumbar seems to be loose inside the seat. It feels like it is either moving around or it broke loose from a mount. Plus it makes a creaking sound. I may take it back to the dealer for this. 3) Going over large bumps (like the speedbumps in parkinglots, it feels like something is loose under the trunk and makes a thumping sound. Not sure what is causing this. Not any major issues yet but was wondering how others are doing with thiers?

+1 on the lumbar suppport i addressed this in an earlier thread and a lot of other guys/gals are having the same issues. Recently when bb installed my viper and the seat got moved around i've surprisingly have had a lot less creaking going on
 
2 months 12 days and almost 4000 miles on my Limited.
I changed my shifter out already as I didn't like the slab shifter and have no suspension or seat noises.
ZERO Defects :thumb3:
 
no issues her other than the lumbar but it's so minor that i hardly ever notice it any more
 
It's kinda of disappointing to hear even a small problem. If you look at the 3rd Gens you would have been hard pressed to find problems even 3-5 years after they first came out.

Toyota needs to stop messing around and improve their quality.

That noise could be a loose spare. Might be worth taking out your jack handle and checking that the spare is cranked up tight.

Same, but quickly realized it was my trailer hitch receiver :) It fit snug in my old 2" receiver but it seems looser in this one, hense the noise over bumps. Do you have one installed?
 
Yes I have a trailer hitch installed. Will pull that off and see if that helps. I will also tighted up the spare (good suggestion). I actually was pushing on it to see if it moved any (was tight to the undercarriage) but will tighten it up and see.
 
3k miles (got her with 15) and the only problem is I waste gas b/c it's so fun to drive I take the long way home. Actually, there was one problem, loose shifter which was solved by +1 turn thanks to advice in the other thread. Leather seats are a bit firm but I'm guessing they will break in over time.

Head gasket blowing is really nothing...surely, not as bad as a loose shift knob!! :naughty:
 
I can't think of a single vehicle that was free of any sort of problems. 3rd Gen's still had issues all the way up until the last production year (LBJ, and planetary gears tending to blow up). If the only problems on the 5th Gen are loose shift knobs and lumbar supports, I welcome it with open arms.

I got a feeling that the 5th gen will be very good mechanically...with only few minor fit-n-finish issues. My prediction. Why? Toyota is using most of the stuff on the 4th gen 4runner on the 5th gen. My conspiracy theory still stands...the 5th gen is really just a big facelift of the 4th gen rather than a true all-new redesign. So, the 5th gen should be pretty sound.

I have had my SR5 for almost 3 months now and the only complaint I have at this point is there is a rattle in the dash on the passenger side. It drives me crazy! I have taken everything out of the glovebox and it's not that, I have driven with the door open and it doesn't do it, I think it's something in the latch. Anyone else notice this?

I had an 05 Tacoma that the glove box door would rattle, more on hot days. I ended having to put a piece of fun felt somewhere around the latch (I can't remember) to stop it from making noise.
 
2200 miles no issues. Peeves: Heat takes forever to come up even once temp guage is in range. Also, the heating system does does blow hot air true to the detent symbol on the fan selector knob. Hence no 50/50 heat. Either my toes are frozen or my hands or visa versa. Of course after 20min of driving it doesnt matter but my commute is almost over by then. Kind of eliminates the convenience of remote start in the winter (if I had it). I would have to hit start at the same time I hit snooze on my alarm clock to have a warm ride into work.
Since I am on roll...stuff your haulin falls behind the pull out tray in the cargo area when pulled out. Only conveneient when your carry stuff that fits into the area of the pull out section. Wish cargo area was flush and flat.
