2 part numbers, same oil filter?

Deal with this guy, Mr King at www.trdparts4u.com They are great people and are supporters of all sorts of Toyota clubs. Plus they are cheap.

I clearly remember this being discussed on here last year........along with the oil drainage valves. If I recalled (don't quote me) the two different part numbers are because one filter is larger than the other. Something to do with a high flow/filtering technique etc......! Yeah I did the search here and it seems that everyone still went back and forth between oil filter numbers. When I contacted partznet they said that was the right part number but when searching here it's another part number. That's why I posted my original question to figure out exactly which was right.fo'runner said:

90915-YZZB9 - Made in Japan. Replaces 90915-20003, which was discontinued. The best filter of them all, but it's also the most expensive, so most U.S. dealers don't stock it.

I went into the stealer to get the 5k service done. I noticed that they put the 90915-YZZD3 oil filter on my V6. Works with no problem. I also read on another thread that this particular filter has a check valve in it. I'm not sure which filter it came with stock when I bought my runner though. It was already removed when I had them change the oil for the first time at 1400 mi.

I can vouch for the filters not changing for the different models...
My '95 truck 22RE uses a 3614, out '99 4runner V6 used a 3614, and the newer '03 4runner V8 uses a 3614.
I've been hearing really good things about the Walmart oil filters so I've been using them. They supposedly filter really well and are made from higher quality matierials than Fram is.
As often as I change the oil it really shouldn't matter too much anyway.

:I will admit that there's an incredibly tiny difference between the 4, 6, and 8 cyl. Toyota filters. My dealer has all three lined up on a shelf next to each other. They all use the same filter wrench, and the difference in length is maybe 1/4 inch from one to the next. Sounds like all three probably have the same threads as well, so they're interchangeable as long as you've got room to get a slightly bigger one in and out of the engine compartment.
