You get what you pay for man. I used to be an autotech installer at best buy and and the knock off alarms alway have faulty brains and don't last long. It will be more of a headache than it's worth. They forget crank times, sometimes recieve 2 transmissions so it will start, most don't have anti-grind, and will try to start again, tearing up your starter. I have the viper, go with the quality units man, most have lifetime product warranty, and best buy has lifetime warranty on labor, so if something happens you're covered on both ends.

Totally helps thanks. I was just curious cuz I know in the world of electronics some makers buy the electronics from the same manufacturer, just slap a different company name on them. So some things are pretty much the same insides, just more expensive depending on the name brand.

Agreed, I needed a new alarm and was on a budget... After looking for a while and pricing things out, I found that if I went with a $80 alarm that didn't include installation, it would cost the same as a viper alarm that included professional installation. Plus its Viper...

understandable, but also keep in mind all the things you can add to the alarm (most of which, unfortunetly, isnt highly spoken about) such as window mods (roll down all windows via remote) glass break sensor (detects when glass has been popped by a tool, which, usually doesnt provide enough shock to set off the shock sensor) and proximity sensors (in a sense, provides an adjustable "bubble" for lack of a better word, around the vehicle, great for convertibles. Also, alot of the cheap remote starts dont have the extra ACC to allow your vehicle to power things such as seat heaters, climate control, radio, dash illum, etc.
as I said before, they are by no means cheap, but, worth the money. Granted, if you can find a "homie hookup" on the alarm, or even the install, that helps. You didnt hear this from me, but I used to do them on the side for $100, and you can usually find the viper units online for around 250. Just keep in mind, if you have an installer do it on the side, if you ever have an issue, you HAVE to go see him specifically. Dont screw him by seeing someone else and when they ask to see your reciept for warranty you tell them he did it on the side. He hooked you up, dont back door him

He has done all my Stereo and Alarm work. Never had a problem with any install....He'll back anything he does and has been around for a long time.
He was running some specials on alarms a little while back. Tell him Clayton sent ya and I'm sure he'll help ya out.
I have 2 Clifford alarms. One in the Taco and One in the 4R. They work great and the range is incredible.

take a look at compustar alarms also. had a viper and had issues with range and signal over and over. Clifford was much better before they were bought out by viper. compustar is what i run now, and i got my whole system off of amazon for $170 and i had a buddy install it. 1/2 mile range, two way paging, lcd remote, and remote start with alarm. very happy with this one

viper changed both the antennas and remotes. They have the best range on the market now. Plus, the have the iPhone app that can start/lock/warn all by phone using sat. with unlimited range
thats $200 for that app. Gotta check and see if theres a jailbroke version.

well i had a bad experience and i was not willing to give them a second shot, and actually compustar has their drone app for their alarms that works on iphones, droids, and blackberrys. i am more than happy with my compustar

Yea, the apps expensive, but have you checked the price on replacing the 2 way remotes? I don't know how rough you are on them, but I've burned through 2. Got the setup on my phone, along with an otter box, and no complaints.
I know it's expensive, but I've never understood peoples mindsets that is spend spend spend on suspensions/rims/tires/audio/etc. but don't want to spend the money on the security. I've got it all, and a tracker in case they defeat the alarm. I can't justify spending that much and not keep it safe. Then again, I live in apartments and am in the military so I might be away from my vehicle for days/weeks at a time.

not sure about the viper app, but if you pay $20 a month, the compustar app has build in gps tracking, as well as most of the features the new cars with on star seem to have (checking automotive conditions, oil level, battery level, etc)
and some insurance companies will cut you a discount because you pretty much are adding a different form of a lo jack on your car.
