Am I the only one that see's Toyota's new oil change requirements as being a bit timely? As soon as they start offering free 2 year maintenance they go to 10K mile intervals? Since I will not drive this truck 20K miles in two years, I guess that means I'll get 2 free oil changes instead of the 1 every 5K miles?? I took mine to the dealer for what they claimed was a 4 month check up. Tire rotation is about all they did. I guess I'll have to change the oil myself since I dont think an initial oil change should drag out to 1 year or 10K miles. I'll be changing it at 5K and have read the entries regarding wrench sizes etc. Even got the Fram part # from an earlier post. Anyone else see it this way regarding Toyota's change in plans??

If the dealer uses synthetic than it might be OK. I changed to M1 and plan on going at least 7.5k, heck BMW is 15k.
I don't know about all that but I can say I would recommend just about any other filter that isn't Fram. Just my opinon. Best of luck with your rig!

No, considering the pricing power they have when it comes to parts, oil, and service costs. For the same reason that it costs McDonald's 12 cents for a soft drink they sell you for $1.25, it costs Toyota significantly less to have your dealer change your oil than it would cost you. If there was a conspiracy to save money, the American media would be all over it by now.
That being said, my service manager assured me that they will honor the 5k mile services listed on my coupons, including oil changes, if I advise them that I am meeting the Special Operating Conditions (such as Towing) where Toyota still recommends an oil change every 5k miles.
I think it has more to do with jacking up mileage claims than beating the customer out of maintenance money. Note the difference in Standard Engine Oil for USA & Canadian 4Runners that's shown on the attached PDF of a page lifted from a Toyota service publication.

Yep, I saw the same choppers ! Seriously though, The dealers are always pushing for oil changes (even synthetics) at 3K to 5K miles. Now that Toyota is on the hook for the costs involved they seem to be changing their minds. I'll bet that after the 2 year free maintenance program goes away they will again start preaching 3-5K intervals.

I was thinking the same thing or at least that my free maintenance was worth a whole lot less than the $795 value the dealer proclaimed. The good news is, when I got my coupons, I found that they specify a 5k oil change interval on them and, an unexpected bonus, the 5 coupons are good for up to 1 year after the 2 year agreement is up. I'm hoping I can stretch this to 3 years free oil and tire rotations.:banana:
