Was that by the Trip Computer or Hand calculated after getting gas?? If it was the Computer it is generous by 1-2 MPG. 20-23 MPG on the Highway is reasonable is you keep you speeds 75 MPH and below.

With the V6 4WD, this summer driving about 80% highway at 72 mph (no towing this summer), I was averaging just over 23 mpg calculated. Each time I would fill up, the range kept increasing to a maximum of 495 miles. Now I'm back to my normal commute 35% highway and 65% city and I am getting around 20.6 mpg. These are all calculated by hand, not using the trip computer. Toyota got the design on this 4runner and the engine just right.

On a recent trip from Albany, NY to Eastern Pennsylvania my MPG was 20.64 (calculated).
Not too bad for a V8 and not exactly driving the speed limit
That MPG is a big improvement over the average 8.46 MPG (calculated) during my 1,400 mile towing trip this past summer.

Hoggy: I am in the same boat. I havent done the pencil calculation yet but my readout has maxed at 18.1 i think it was on a 3 hour trip via interstate going between 65 and 80mph. I do have a v8 4wd but wasnt towing and only had one passenger and a couple suitcases.
I have seen the readout get higher for a few minutes when i reset it but once it gets in some good miles for an average its been that 18mpg.
So since the computer says 2 over i guess im only getting 16mpg.

That is about exactly what I get (calculated) with more like 15MPG back and forth to work all week, across town only 6 miles each way. Probably more like 17-18 normal driving and best about 21MPG on long highway trips 70-75 mph. Stock V6 with OEM Michelins.
This is very close +/- 2MPG from my other truck, a 2003 V8 Tahoe.

I have only tracked my last 5 fillups so far and its been about 90% City so I've yet to see what 100% Hwy will be like. I bought my 4Runner at a dealership about 4.5 hrs away from me and meant to check my mileage on the trip home, but in all the activity and excitement I forgot to do just that. So I started tracking it after that first fillup.

Note: Alot of the posters on the links only have 10 fillups or less (mine too so far) and not very indicative, but their are many with lots of fillups that I think are good examples of average MPG (of course keeping in mind that there are many factors that influence average mpg).

I am jealous of these numbers. All I have done is the FJ suspension, daystar 2.5/1.5, and 265/70 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I just drove from Kansas City to Silverthorn CO and was getting between 15.5-16mpg calculated. I know this could be a LITTLE bit off because of the small increase in tire size.
But for 100% highway and keeping it around 75mph, thats a low number.
The truck has recently had all fluids changed to synthetic, new air filter, removed carbon filter, new-ish plugs and cleaned MAF.
I have broken 20mpg ONCE on another trip to CO over the summer. However the highway trip was 16-17mpg, and once I got into town I was getting around 20mpg. Its a very windy trip across the flats in KS, but I have been on other long road trips (headed East) with results that arent much better.
I have an 05 with 76k.

'04 v8 - 21mpg all day long. Mostly city, some highway. Drops to around 14mpg towing 4000lbs trailer. Some of you must be real leadfoots
