200+ miles too many???

Hey everyone! I am currently shopping for my first 4runner, and have a question about mileage. I notice that I can spend a considerably less amount of money on one with around or over 200+ miles on it, rather than one with say 125-150k on it. Are these trucks still very much worth it even with over 200 on them?

Also, are there any major differences on reliability throughout the model years from '96 and up?

I don't plan on doing any hard wheeling at all for the first couple of years. Will be my daily driver for a few years probably and then turn it into a trail rig. Any advice??

200K is not too many miles if it has been maintained well but 100K is too many if it hasn't been. I'm on my second 3rd Gen, bought the first one with 191K, bought this one with 187K. I looked at one the other day for sale locally with 123K on it but it was a piece of sh*t. The one I bought with 187K (for much less $ too) was the much better vehicle.

agreed! I got mine with 240k on it from a guy who was religious about maintenance. My girl runs like a top!

if i was in the market for a 3rd gen . i would first make sure its 4wd..and mileage around or under 150k miles. these things last a good bit. A member on here has it at 377k miles and wheels it like crazy. i am at 290k with my next oil change and runs good.

i bought mine at 203K and have not needed to put a dime in it other than gas and oil changes, that being said ive done a lot of preventive maintenance to it, like trans cooler, LBJ and TBU, not cause it needed them, but for peace of mind. when i pulled my LBJs they where still nice and tight so i have kept them as spares in case i break one wheeling or someone else does out on a run. other than that my rig has been just what i expected from a toyota, great, dependable and reliable. have no fears buying one with 200k on it, just dont buy one that looks like its been trashed...

It would make me feel a lot better if there were some receipts from a toyota dealer. 200k and drives perfect is a lot different price than 200k and needs work on driveline and appearance.

not to be argumentative, but yeah what about guys on here like me who do all my own maintenance and cant provide receipts for work done... our rigs are just as good if not better maintained that ones by dealers or shops. 200k means nothing. a lot can be said about a vehicle by its appearance, it will show if its owner care about their vehicles, its called vehicle profiling, and its not illegal. it works rather well

Purchased at 182k. Got a carfax, 2 owner, 1st owner did all toyota dealer maintenance to 90k. Second owner, I saw a couple of maintenance issues done. 2 timing belt stickers on the radiator shroud. Truck ran perfect, all fluids clean. I have put 10k and have only replaced one broken sway bar end link. I did get a front end alignment. No problems yet.
