2000-2001 tailgate (Back Hatch) on 1997 4runner

Did any one ever take a newer model Tailgate (back hatch) and put it on a 1997 4 runner. I know the 4runner emblems moved from center above the rear door handle to the driver side closer to the tail light. Is the wiring the same or is the door the same??

I haven't heard about anyone doing this. My guess would be they are exactly the same, except for the location of the emblems. I don't recall them looking any differently.
