2000 4Runner both power seats dead

I have a 2000 4runner and a few days ago the power controls for the front seats stopped working. I was able to move the drivers one in a brief period where it decided to work but now there is no juice going to any of the controls on both seats. Is there a a relay or fuse that these seats operate off? Also I thought it was weird that the engine always had to be running for the power seat controls to work???

There is your problem the SR5 never came from the factory with power seats. You will need to trace the wiring to figure out the problem. The seats are fairly easy to remove.

HUH? How do you power controls for seats on an SR5 when they were only offered on Limited. I cannot believe someone added these after the fact. That would be a huge expense to buy.

My friend bought a SR5 with the limited power seats added in. All you need to do is run power to the seat and ground. You may just want to run power to them again, and supply them with constant power.

Yup, took everything apart and there is a bunch of wires that are tapped together instead of crimped. I also found a link to a thread on yotatech where a guy did this install but used the proper place to splice in. Unfortunatly it's a different year and I don't have the blue wires in the connector he's referring to.

Now I just need to figure out where the proper place to splice in would be.

The idiot that sold me the car tapped into one wire too many. The only wires needed for the power seat to work are the blue one and the white/black. Why he tapped into another power wire and went to the white red on the seat is beyond me. It made it so that it would only operate with the engine running. The original problem is that the ground wire he tapped into was bad. It's the main black ground wire running along the drivers side floor. I'm surprised that nothing else uses that wire and that nothing else is not functioning.
