2000 4Runner shocks, which is best?

I put KYB's on after replacing the stock shocks and struts, they're fine, not much to brag or complain about, but I'm not a serious off roader, and no towing. I will be getting Bilsteins next.

I have just replaced original shocks with Bilsteins on my 1999. Shox.com sells them for $279 with free shipping. I have also installed ADDCO front and rear sway bars purchased from Shox.com as well. What a BIG difference this mode does for our trucks. Highly recommend it if you mostly use the truck for highway commuting. The truck rides like glued to the road. Better than my 2005 Legacy GT (no modes).

i just threw a set of the KYB monomax on mine. I got them all around and i love them! the reviews say that they are stiffer than stock which i was a little skeptical about because my OEM's were really stiff and awful but that was because they were shot. The monomax's are pretty dang nice. they give a great ride, almost feels like a new truck! there not badly priced either look at tirerack!

Yeah I like my Bilsteins and I want to put on the sway bars too. I'm almost always commuting on the highway and it's great to get the road feedback. I'm thinking about just putting on the front sway bar at first.
My understanding is that the tokicos are the oem shocks. Bilsteins are definitely a firm ride so don't go with them if you want cushy suspension.

For best results towing you should get Rancho RS9000 shocks. They are 9 way adjustable so they can be tuned stiff for towing and tuned easy for regular cruising. They have little red knobs on them that are easily accessible or you can get a set up that allows you to adjust them from inside. Best thing I ever put on my rig.

x2 and another recommendation for the bilsteins, they are the stock shock and also are offered on the trd packages, the way i look at it is toyota did good on the 4runners so you don't have to reinvent the wheel when your replacing stuff,
just use oe parts when fixing your runner and it'll always be top, if your looking for better handling i'd add the addco's mentioned above, there is nothing wrong with the stock set up, stock these runners ride real nice, but if that's not enough for you the addco's are going to be what you want to reduce the body roll, shocks don't really help all that much with that sort of thing. shocks work in one direction up and down take that into consideration when thinking about how it rides.

"Self adjusting"? That sounds as gimmicky as they come. Do they really adjust or is that just buzz word marketing? The difference on the Ranchos is night and day no doubt about it. I can put these things on setting 2 and it's like Buick float mode. I jack it to 9 and even with my boat on and packed to the gills in the bed and 5 people in the cab it's as stable as a tractor trailer rig.

yeah it means you dont have to lay in the dirt and turn a knob to get them "adjusted". Bilsteins are self adjusting, which means i keep my ass inside the truck and it dampens the ride accordingly. ive sold suspensions for 10 years and im not bashing your ranchos, i just think for the money the bilstein is a better shock

he's talking about his ranchos there, and self adjusting isn't really self adjusting it's just the valving on them is all , kind of like a progressive spring, dampens more at the bottom and less at the top, if they work like other self adjusting shocks i've seen...its been a while though
