2000 4Runner Timing Belt

My 2000 4Runner is pushing the 90K miles mark and that dreaded timing belt job.

I've bad experience with shoddy maintenance work that not only hurted my pocket book but also turned my healthy car into a sick one.

If my runner's engine is non-interference, I'd rather go for another 60K before turning it in for that cursed timing belt job.

Could someone confirm that the V-6 engine in my 2000 4Runner is a non-interference machine (or not)?

It's non-interference. I have about 117k on my original timing belt. I'll be changing it out at about the 130-150k mark. Some have stuck to the 90k recommendation. Some have gone 200k+ on the original belt. Others have not been so fortunate and had theirs break at less than 70k miles.

It is non-interference.

If you don't feel like changing it yourself or having a local shop do it just go to a Toyota dealership.

Ive never ever seen one break under 100k on its own. They have only broken due to w/p failure or something else making it break. The factory does not say to do it every 60K, only the stealer does. Do it every 90K and you will be ok

Just replaced the wife's 99 4runner with 145K. The belt was in good shape except on one place it had some threads broken. Day and a quarter job for me. Changed water pump all belt and upper and lower hoses.

I see everyone chimed in about having a non-interference engine. I have also noticed many members go well beyond 90,000 miles. So, going 60,000 more miles is not out of reach. Of course if it breaks, it kind of ruins your day. I decided to go to 120,000 miles and then change it. That way, if I get 240,000 miles, I might decide to not change it again, maybe???
