2000 Camry Spark Plug Deposits

Hey all,

Figured I would ask here since there are plenty of knowledgeable people on here. Are these spark plug deposits from burning oil? It wouldn't surprise me.. Car has almost 400k on the motor. We go through a couple quarts per oil change. Only reason I looked is because the car has coolant disappearing. Thanks all

There are many variables here, but I would start with checking to see where the coolant is going with a Leak Detector Kit/Block Tester from NAPA or the like. Also rent a coolant pressure tester and see if it keeps the pressure constant (the pressure of the system should be on the radiator cap).

At 400k miles though unless the car has serious sentimental value I'd sell it for scrap or parts value.

Have you done a compression check yet? With disappearing coolant I'd look at the head gasket. Some auto parts locations will "loan" tools. You technically buy it. Use it. Then return it for refund, minus the rental fee.

Agreed. The fiance bought it from a tech at the dealer she worked at and he had replaced it previously, but I'm not sure when. I also noticed it was running very rough when starting it this morning, so I'm fearing a head gasket is the cause. The windshield needs to be replaced too, which is going to require body work. The paint is rusting/bubbling above the window.
