2000 Ignition Lock replacement

After years of telling my daughter to take all the crap off of her key chain the ignition lock finally gave out. Thanks to youtube figured this repair was easy. Ordered the new cylinder on line from Advanced Auto, 20% off, picked it up locally. The whole repair was less than 30 minutes. Yes it now has 2 Keys. My local locksmith said rekeys usually fail after a couple months.

I haven't can't speak specifically for 4runner ignitions but when I replaced the one in my wife's 2003 Suburban I took it and the old one to a locksmith to rekey it to match. It cost $40 (I think the service was overpriced but I didn't know how to do it and no others I could find were cheaper). That was 2 years ago and I've never had any issue with it. It still works smoothly, no hang ups or wiggling required.
