2000 limited, clunking in drive and reverse

When I first start up, my limited clunks into drive and reverse.
Just replaced the transmission, thinking that was the problem.
No change, same problem as before change out.
Help! Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated .

Need a little more info. I have to ask why would replace a tranny without first looking at the cheaper/ more likely culprits? Not trying to be an ass. I would have started with greasing the driveshaft and checking the fluids in the transfer case and rear dif. I believe there are 7 fittings that need greasing. Then I would have looked at the condition of the u-joints and Double cardan (sp?) joint. Also need to look at rear control arm bushings and tranny mount. Really need to isolate exactly where the clunk is coming from. (tranny, driveline, rear dif area etc) There are a few other things to look at before replacing a transmission, unless you did look at everything before replacement. Once again, need a little more info.
Did you diagnose the tranny or did a shop do it?

I have the same problem, it happens the first couple times after start up but once warm it ceases. I don't think the u joints are the culprit because I don't think they need a warm up.. Do they??

These trucks run at a higher RPM when 1st started. Freaked me out a little when I first got the truck. Maybe that's what your noticing. Mine feels kinda hard too when I first shift into drive or reverse right after starting. I can't say it "clunks" however. I just keep the foot on the brake when shifting into drive or reverse until it's warmed up.

Where is the clunking sound coming from? Seems a little extreme to swap the tranny for a clunking sound.

Was it a new or used tranny?
