2000 LTD ac will not shut off

Hi folks,
new guy here. I have a problem with my AC not wanting to shut off. I push the button and it stays on. I can shut the whole ventilation system off then the AC shuts down but of course I cannot use any of the other controls either. I had it looked at and the mechanic who I trust said it was about $1000 to fix. He said it wasn't just the switch. I've sprayed contact cleaner in the buttons, but is has made no difference. Has anyone else heard of this? Is there a DIY fix available? Thanks, Mike

Probably something simple, may cost more to find what it is than cost to fix it, either way shop around mechanics, find one with the lowest estimate, but yet good!!!

Stay away from dealer!!!

LMAO, if you have it set to defrost, the ac will stay on when the air is on.

and the guy that you trust. what will $1000 get you? i bet he is just gonna start replacing parts till it gets fixed... smh

Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. I cannot press the AC button to turn it off. I cannot press any button to turn the AC off. Sometimes the "off" button doesn't even shut everything down. The guy I trust has been fixing my cars for 18 years. It is too bad you didn't have anything helpful to say, but thanks anyways.

so when you have the blower motor set to OFF. does the a/c light turn off?
