Lots of threads on this problem, but I wanted to post my fix which may save you a few dollars.
Problem:
When I closed the rear hatch, it would latch, then pop back open after around 5 seconds as if I had pressed the open button. This happened to me a couple weeks ago, I pulled the ECM-B fuse, pressed the open button many times, until the problem went away. It reared it's head up again today.
Potential causes:
Trunk opening button - unsure whether it had been replaced by the previous owner. Still in good condition with audible clicks, no broken rubber. This is not an indicator that the button is in good working condition.
Trunk hatch actuator - rusty and crusty at the point of contact, but I've lubricated it a few times since ownership in the past year to keep the rust from seizing it shut.
Since I didn't really have any signs pointing to the actuator being broken, I decided to order a new button since it is a $18 part (A-power as I wasn't concerned with an aftermarket part for this project) and would arrive tomorrow. I decided to pull the actuator out to see if there was any visible indicators of malfunctioning, only to notice a lot of dirt and grime.
I ended up just taking a nylon brush to clean off the grime and dust (pretty dusty with fine sand), then cleaned it off with MAF cleaner (didn't have a bottle of brake kleen), then lubricating the innards of the latch mechanism and any moving parts with WD40.
Put 'er all back together and boom, rear hatch stopped popping open on its own after closing it. Promptly cancelled my Amazon order for the new opening button.
If you're having the same symptoms as I did, try this out and it might save you a few dollars.
