2000 SR5 need info

I picked up my 2000 4wd SR5 from my brother-in-law last month. 176000 miles, extremely clean, rust free and well optioned. Drove back from Maryland to home in Michigan, 20mpg average, with the roof open the whole way. Beautiful trip.
What I am trying to find is a way to intrepet the VIN or some way of finding out what my T4R was equipped with originally. It seems like I find something new everyday. Any way to get a build sheet or something equivalent?

VIN doesn't tell you much....year/factory/engine/trans/4wd/trim level and that's about it. You need to cozy up to a dealer, they can get build sheet or the window sticker info for you, if they want to. I don't know of any source on-line.

the sticker in the door will tell you the most info as far as drivetrain. transmisson model, gear ratios, stuff like that

Take that sticker with a grain of salt, mine says I have 15 inch wheels and 4:30's I have 16's and 4:10's I believe quite a few people have found that sticker to be wrong.

I know out of the 4 4runners that I have owned the stickers were accurate. maybe most people don't understand how to read them, or their stock equipment were changed out by a previous owner. I was sceptical about how accurate my current 4runner sticker was because it said I have 4 pinion carrier's and everything about my rig is base model. but when I pulled the 3rd member out sure enough it was correct.

I guess in your case it would be easy to tell if the sticker were wrong. 15in wheel 3rd gens have floating caliper front brakes where as the 16in ones have 4piston fixed calipers. 15in wheels wont clear those brakes.

I have 199mm Tundra's up front now, but I definitely had 4 piston brakes that I took of when I did the upgrade and judging by how the mounting studs did NOT want to let go I'm assuming they were original even with my sticker saying 15's. Dunno maybe I'm the odd ball. That said the few trucks I have seen in junk yard don't match their sticker either. Regaurdless, it's always a good idea to do a mechanical and visual double check.

Thanks for all the input. The part about 4 piston calipers will be helpful, I'll check tomorrow Mine has 16" wheels and is optioned like a Limited w/o running boards, chrome bumpers and leather. My bro-in-law put on Westin side bars and the look is good. The color is the same as about 90% of the T4R's produced, silver/gold? I'm trying to figure out how to load pics.:shrug:
