2000 t4r Radio backlight dead

I have a 2000 runner and the backlight on the radio has gone out. Also i noticed that once in a while my clock will not display a time but when it comes back on the time is still correct. Finally, the light illuminating my fuel gauge is out. Does anyone think this is all related? Is my radio shot?

On an older Yota radio I had the illumination light go out so it was extremely difficult to read the channel information. I removed the radio and took off front bezel. And found a soldered in pea bulb that had burned out. I purchased new bulb at Radio Shack (think it was 2 for $1). Was not difficult to solder it back in (original had a colored sleve that covered the bulb) so its a clear bulb that you want.

Your 2000 radio has a boatload of small LED's that provide illumination. More than likely, you have a loose wire somewhere, especially if anyone has ever installed another stereo or alarm. Look behind the radio for any "damage"...

The car had not been touched until i put in an aftermarket unit since the stock unit went out. Ill check behind the radio. Is there anywhere else i should look for a loose connections?

Did you install the aftermarket unit? If so did you use an add on harness that let you plug into the OEM radio wiring harness? Lots of installers like to skip the extra $10-15 cost of the plugs. They hack into the factory harness plus most don't use heat shrink tubing or even a soldering iron! Some just twist the wires and if you're in luck use electrical tape or plastic wire connectors. These last until the tape dries out or the plastic wire nuts vibrate lose! For best results the add on harness should be soldered to the aftermarket radio wires and all connections and unused wires covered with shrink wrap tubing.

so silly question, how hard is it to get all this apart to solder in the $2 bulb?

Half of my 03 clock/temp/cooling/heating display is dead. just half though. I assume there are a few bulbs since its a bigger panel.

2000 4runner radio lights not working

Help Just purchased a sweet 2000 4runner SR5 and drove it during the day and everything worked great...so I bought it.

Drove it last night and the lights on the radio do not work...help
