Hey Everyone,
I have an issue with my tranny that is starting to make me nervous. First off, I have a 2000 T4R Limited, 4WD, auto-transmission, no mods. I just passed 142K miles, and the transmission was serviced (by me) at 138K by referencing a write-up from this site as well as the Haynes manual. I dropped the pan, replaced the filter, and flushed the system. The fluid level is fine, and there are no leaks.
About 2 weeks ago I started to notice that when I start the rig cold, the first time I accelerate the transmission won't shift from 2nd to 3rd gear unless I mash the gas and get the RPMs up around 2500-2700. After reaching the high RPMs there is a rough shift into 3rd gear. After the tranny shifts from 2nd to 3rd one time, the problem is gone.
Just for clarity, there is no issue shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, and the problem only happens the first time the rig goes from 2nd to 3rd gear after a cold start. After that, the tranny shifts smooth in all gears, at a much lower RMP, without having to stomp the gas. Also, there is no check engine light or any other light.
I called a local dealership and an indipendent transmission shop and got mixed avice. Of course, both said I should just "brig it on in and let them have a look." The only problem is, if I drive it there, by the time they climb in to diagnose the problem, it will be gone. One told me it could be a solenoid or the computer. The other told me it could be a valve or a bad tranny. Has anyone had a similar issue or know anyone who has? I'm VERY limited on funds, so I can't really afford to spend a lot of money trying to figure out what the issue is. And if its something I can do myself I would probably go that route. Thanks in advance for any insight.
